“1…2…3…4..” a 9-year-old Princess counted off. She was facing the wall in their backyard with her eyes closed, giggling. “10. Ready or not, here I come!”
She excitedly ran towards a nearby tree and looked behind it. There was nothing there. She looked behind some bushes. Nothing. She searched every nook and cranny of the yard, but her friend was nowhere to be found.
“Where are you?” she shouted to the air. No one answered.
Princess nervously went inside the house. She searched in every room, but it doesn’t seem like she would find her best friend. Giving up, she finally went to her bedroom. She barely sat on the bed when someone grabbed her ankle from underneath.
“AAAHHHH!!!” she screamed and stuck her head below the bed. “Why, you!” A grinning girl with blonde hair looked at her ever so sweetly. “I won.”
Princess glared at her friend for a few seconds and they both burst into laughter. She pulled her out from under the bed and helped her stand up. “Don’t do that to me again!”
“It was fun though, wasn’t it?” Her friend chuckled and walked over to the study table. “I like playing with you.” She picked up one of the dolls on display, and stroked her hair.
“Yeah, but not as fun as this!” Princess replied, throwing a pillow at her.
“Oh no, you didn’t!”
Both girls jumped on the bed, swinging pillows at each other. They laughed hysterically until they fell asleep from exhaustion.
A few hours later, Princess woke up in the middle of the night. She thought she felt a chill through her body. Her bedroom window was open, and her friend was not on the bed beside her.
She got up to look out the window and saw what looked like shadows rapidly floating away into the forest.
That was the last time she ever saw her dear friend, Innocence.
